How to blog

If you have already registered, the first thing you need to do is log in. You can log in by going to the following address - Log In. Pictured below is the log in screen. Type in your username and password and click “Log In”. If you select “Remember Me” the next time you log in, it will remember your details.

Once you have logged in you will see what is called the “dashboard”, pictured below. Now that we are logged in we can start blogging. On the top left of the screen you will see a menu with “Write”, “Manage” and “Comments”. Click on “Write” to create a new blog entry.

Right, this is where things get interesting. Firstly you need a title for your blog entry. The title is the first thing someone will notice when browsing the site. The title should be short and descriptive. If i was selling a car for instance, my title could be something like, “2008 VW Citi Golf 1.6 For Sale”. It is short, but has all the necessary information for someone looking to buy a car.

Below the title is the “Post” block where you can input the content of your blog entry. You have all the same functionality as Microsoft Word. You can change your text style, the color, etc. So let’s add in a title, and some content about our car for sale.

So what if you want to add a picture to your blog entry? No Problem. Above the text window you will see the “Add Media” with 4 little icons next to it. Click on the first icon (pictured left)

A window will pop up (pictured below). From here you can either upload an image from your computer or link an image from another host. For now we are going to upload an image from our computer to add to the body of our blog entry. Click on “Choose files to upload” and select the file you want to upload. It will then show you a summary of the image you have uploaded. If you like you can add a description of the image. You can also set the alignment of the image, either none, left, center or right. I am going to choose left. Now click on “Insert into Post” to add the image to the body of your blog entry.

So now we have a title, a picture of our car for sale, and information about our car. The next step is to add “Tags” to our blog entry. Tags are keywords associated to your blog entry. You can add as many tags as you like. Just like your title, your tags should be relevant to your blog entry. Go ahead and add some tags and click “Add”. You can add more tags if you like, or remove any tags.

Now we need to select a category for our blog entry. You can assign it to multiple categories if you like. Select the categories which would best suit your blog entry.

A nifty feature is the ability to add a thumbnail image to your blog entry. This thumbnail will show up when people are browsing through SA Business Business Blog and will help draw attention to your blog entry. We are going to use the image we uploaded earlier as our thumbnail.

We are going to need the URL of the image we uploaded earlier. The URL tells us where our image is on the server. Click on the image in the body of your blog entry, then click on the icon with the mountain on. This will show all the information of the image.

Look for a field called “Link URL”. Highlight the text in the textbox. Now right-click the highlighted text and click “copy”. Click on the small “X” in the top right corner of the window to close it. Scroll down the page and click on the tab labeled “Custom Fields”.

In the “Key” field type in “Thumbnail”. This is case sensitive, so make sure to type it with a capital “T”. The “Value” is where you are going to put the URL of your image. Right-click inside the field and click “paste”. It should now look something like the picture below. Click “Add Custom Field”.

Now all that’s left to do is publish your blog entry. Click on “publish” (pictured left). Done, you have successfully added a blog entry. You can now click “View Post” to check out your blog entry on the site.
